Larry Key - Chief Instructor

Mr. Larry Key currently holds a 6th degree Black belt. He is recognized in the martial arts society for his "Power Breaks". Some of his achievements include; breaking seventeen (17) stacked concrete bricks at once, breaking six (6), 1" boards with a spinning side kick, and breaking three (3), 1" boards with a suspended inward punch.

Larry was born in June, 1954 in Sylacauga, Alabama. Growing up Larry and his brothers all proved to be outstanding athletes, especially Larry. At age 11 and 12 he was MVP in the 90 lb. Football league. As he grew and advanced in weight, so did his athletic prowess: MVP 120 lb. League (13 years old); All-Star Pony League (14 years); MVP running back (14 years). Also at age 14, Larry held the Georgia State record in the 440- yard dash and in the mile relay. For three years, Larry worked hard toward establishing the all-time rushing record of 1,837 yards and 1,020 yards for a seasonal record. As a senior, he was voted MVP in football and track. After graduation in 1972, Larry was accepted to Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi on a full football scholarship. in 1973. Tragically on May 16, 1973, Larry’s life was literally crushed when at a construction site in Roswell, Georgia, where he was backed over by a D9 bulldozer while working for a curbing crew (read: The Story ).

In 1986, Larry began studying martial arts, as he progressed he became the training partner of Grand Master Kwang Jo Choi, founder of Choi Kwand Do. Larry opened his first martial arts school with Chief Instructor Kelly Chandler in September of 1988. In June of 1990, Larry received his Black Belt and in December of that same year, he received his Black Belt 1st degree. Larry earned the title of Chief Instructor in May, 1991. In 1993 and 1994, he became the Head Instructor for Choi Kwand Do's International Demo team, training students from around the world, while owning and operating his own martial arts studio. In 1995, Larry became certified as a test Examiner for the state of Georgia. He founded Pil Sung Do with Mr. Roger Wright in 1998.
